MULBERRY STATISTICS
In it’s beginning, Mulberry was sparsely settled in forested with long leaf yellow pine. The principal industry, logging, gave way to phosphate. In 1886, phosphate ore was discovered at the mouth of the Peace River. Since the district had no name, the Atlantic Coastline dropped off goods marked “Put off at the big Mulberry tree on the Bone Valley Branch”. Shipments became so numerous that the railroad built a station next to the tree, and of coarse named “Mulberry”. The station later became the “Mulberry Phosphate Museum”, a Polk County treasure and an experienced in history and industry.
Mulberry is strategically situated at the crossroads of Tampa Eastward expansion and Lakeland Southern growth. In addition to the many phosphate companies, Mulberry is the home town for:
- W.S Badcock Furniture & Appliance Corp
- The Annual Mulberry Jubilee
- Spurgeon Baptist Bible College
- Mulberry Phosphate Museum
